Meghalaya
Intro:
Wild forests, cascading waterfalls, abundant rivers and untamed beauty are all synonyms to Meghalaya. The northeastern state which literally translates to ‘abode of clouds’ was once the wettest place on earth. As a result, the subtropical forests of the state have become a home to a diverse birds, animals and plants and flowers.
Previously a part of Assam, Meghalaya gained statehood in 1972. The state is divided into three primary districts: Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills. The capital city, Shillong, is in East Khasi Hills and attracts maximum number of tourists. Shillong is bustling with cars and trade—like other prominent hill stations. It is on the outskirts of Shillong that the charm of Meghalaya lies.
The untouched beauty of the state is seen in the agrarian countryside. Khasi traditions are delicately woven with modernity. One such tradition is that of stitching roots of trees to make ‘living bridges’. In many parts of Meghalaya, roots of rubber trees are interlocked to form bridges, ladders and other pathways. These slowly usher in numerous tourists, without losing their own culture.
The Khasi tribe, most dominant in the state, are known for their high standards of hygiene. This is ritualistically practiced in most homestays and guest houses, irrespective for the steep influx of tourism in the state.
Come and explore the surreal, untouched beauty of Meghalaya with us!

Itinerary:
We will begin our Meghalaya exploration in Tura, in West Garo Hills. This district is comparatively lesser explored than other parts in the state. We will visit Pelga Falls, Nokrek Peak, Chibragre and of course, the famous Tura Peak here.
Onwards to East Garo Hills, we will explore the terrain through its waters. Rongbang Falls a short distance from Rombagre village; Nongkhnum Island Beach where three waterfalls— Kshaid Langshiang, Kshaid Thum, Kshaid Weinia—form an idyllic island; and Wah Rilang, near Mawranglang, forms emerald river ponds—are perhaps the highlights of the waterbodies in this district.
Immerse yourself in the comforting greenery of this northeastern state as we turn towards Khasi Hills and explore much sought-after tourist attractions like Double Decker Bridge, Nohkalikai Falls, Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Dawki, Umngot River, Dainthlen Falls, Mawkdok Dympep Valley viewpoint and Elephant Falls. The caves of Meghalaya—Arwah cave and Mawsmai cave—are a part of our 4×4 drive too. More forest explorations like Mawphlang Sacred Grove and Riwai Root Bridge await you. And Laitlum’s canyons and Nartiang Monoliths are spots not to be missed.
As we exit Meghalaya, we will stop at Umiam Lake on the outskirts and Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
